Wanting to take good notes
he carefully paraphrased each chapter
adding commentary as necessary
until he decided that what really mattered
in the case of this particular book
was the style. He rewrote his notes
in the style of author, took out redundant
or misleading commentary
and kept at it until what he had
was word for word the same as the book.

And then he started over.
